FNG here. Finally retired and have time to make the RFTW. I did a short leg in 2017, Ontario to Az, but work called and had to go home.
I’m retired Army (23 year Infantryman) and recently retired 1st grade teacher. I’m also a member of CVMA (Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association) chapter 33-1.
I am riding the Midway route and plan to camp along the way. I am hoping to find more information on the camping situation along the route. I guess you really cannot take the infantry out of the man.
I’ll also be doing the Sand Run. I mean, why not, it’s not like I have to go back to work!
Hello Kevin “3-Peat”,
Welcome to RFTW and the Midway Route !! Look forward to seeing you along the way. A couple things to help out (if not already familiar) —
Go to Midways section of the website (Midway Route Hub - Run For The Wall®) and click on Midway Route Hotels. Although does mention of hotels, camping is also listed.
Also on Midways section of website, click on Midway Route Contacts. You can scroll and find Camping Coordinator under Leadership Support. Jerry Wilkins is Midways Camping Coordinator and his contact information (email, phone#) should be there if you shall have any questions.
Hey 3-PEAT, guess I missed you at Tombstone. I’m sure Skip told you I’m the Route Coordinator for Sandbox and I’m also riding Midway. The Camping Coordinator for Sandbox is Cliff Brumels “Breecher” (602) 320-498 breecher51@gmail.com. Feel free to contact me with any other questions. Bill “COB” Brehler. 775-527-7521. CVMA 41-3
I didn’t decide to make the run until Saturday night while sitting with Skip and Deuce. I have been planning to ride to Alaska, but there’s been a lack of communication with that group and the “warm and fuzzy” wasn’t there. So I decided to go to the Plan A: RFTW.
I found what I was looking for and am making phone calls for reservations. Thanks for the additional Sandbox info!
Looking forward to see you soon. Will you be at SUR in April?
3-Peat, This is Dave Bronfman in Bonsall, California. Kinda new to the area. Signed up for Midway and Sandbox routes as FNG
Need to connect with seasoned Veteran on do’s and don’ts of run&area. Been in Alaska the past 40 years.
