I have got all the gmrs stuff working. Just wanted to share a little pit cheaper of a way for the bluetooth setup. I bought a 50 dollar bluetooth setup and put it in another helmet. Also bought a hard wire set up to take as a backup. Im going to try and post pictures.
Following you Preacher’, waiting to hear more about what you discover.
It doesnt work as good as i hoped for but i think it will do the job. Cant seem to get it to stay connected to gmrs radio and all of my phone stuff at the same time. I will probably just connect to gmrs radio and leave all the rest of my bike stuff, navigation and sterio on the outside speakers. It will just be a rftw helmet.
I’ve found some Bluetooth PTT and dongle along with an ear piece that was mentioned on a video. They even got it to sync up as a phone to their helmet com system. I’m going to purchase and see I can get the same.
Interested in the outcome. Following
Well I must say that was the easiest pairing I have ever done between electronics. Let me explain my system setup.
I currently operate Baofeng UV-5R handhelds with my ham license during flights in my hot air balloon. I wanted inexpensive radios that could still reach out to our ground crew as well as be able to dial in frequencies as needed. The UV-5R definitely gave me that as they were ~$50 for the pair and last a long time on battery.
I just received the Bluetooth setup that a remote PTT button can be setup on my grips while the dongle and radio is on the dash or even in the trunk. The Bluetooth earpiece also came with it but I did not use it.
First I unpaired my IPhone from my helmet completely (forget device) as to not interfere.
Second I paired the PTT with the dongle.
Third paired the single with my FodSports M1-S Pro helmet com
All connected within 5 minutes.
Installed the dongle on the radio, pressed the PTT and heard the key up. Turned on a second radio with volume up, keyed the PTT and spoke with clear results. Keyed up the second radio and heard the traffic in my helmet. Success!
Currently it has taken the place of my phone on the helmet coms but I can always switch over to intercoms between other riders and also listen to music or whatever from there.
I’ve already got a flex antenna to increase my capability and considering ordering the GMRS antenna to replace the CB antenna on the bike and wire to the dash. Cigarette Lighter adapter to the battery and I’m set.
$60 delivered in 2 days and only 1 recharge cable for the system while on trips,I can’t beat that.
Hope this helps.
taking calls and listening to music is not impacted when transmitting the GMRS?
I usually have my phone connected to my bike through a wire, car play or whatever they call it. When doing it that way it didnt seem to work right. I like using my phone gps that way so it is on my bike screen. I will mess with a little more later. I really dont need phone calls anyway. I also can use my external bike speakers turned all the up for gps if need be. For the price difference, i will make it work.
understood, thank you
No since it switches over to that device.
The following equipment will get a rider up and going on a budget.
Easily acquired through Amazon, simple and easy enough to install and remove if needed after the ride and stored until the next time you want to use it.
All in equipment wise $160
If you want better broadcasting, upgrade to better antenna and even radio wattage.
For a handheld with good reviews and easy on the wallet, if it’s dropped or damaged, it’s not a significant loss.
The m1-s pro is just what I have. The Bluetooth dongle should connect with any Bluetooth system.
