I am seriously reconsidering my start for the run in 2026. I am considering New Mexico instead of California.
Why? The news is frightening with California. In a couple of days, CA loses a refinery. Apr 2026 loses another refinery. Those closures remove 20% of refined products, which will affect prices in CA, AZ, NV and OR. All 4 of these states are totally reliant on CA Production. Now another banger, starting in Jan 2026 about 500 stations, independent owned, if not more, will be closing due to storage tank replacements. All of these items are now being quoted as detrimental to cost of gas, quoting possibly $10 a gallon at least.
I hope BOD is considering all this with the upcoming run.
gas in phoenix is still down. please don’t let the news frighten you and stop you from seeing some of the most beautiful parts of the country and sharing some of the most wonderful memories with the greatest folks you’ll ever ride with. lets say the price did go to $10 a gallon - that would be worth the cost of hanging out for the night with some good friend’s and then some dinner. on top of that, the mission is still valid. the price folks paid that are still missing in war, who died in war, who re-live the war day-to-day…If you can make the time to come, I’d sure like to see the support.
The gas prices in California are definitely going to make me cringe at the pump. However I am traveling from the north and will have to run the whole state. I figure I will just bite the bullet and not let it take away from this Run. By the time were in the next state, those memory’s will just fade out as the Ride is what’s important. This is my first run and am looking so forward to this. ( hopefully I can maintain this outlook by the time I get to Ontario. Ha! ) The other thought I have is the cheaper gas prices along the way will make it even out. I did pay in advance for fuel, should make a difference also.
